2. Using the Penryn community:

The key is to find someone to Liftshare with. When you find someone to Liftshare with it is important to form a Liftshare Team with this person by sending a request to share.

Forming a Liftshare Team enables you and your teammates to benefit from car sharing within the Penryn Campus community.

Must haves to Liftshare successfully:

  • A verified Liftshare account
  • A journey available to share
  • The Liftshare App downloaded
  • A Liftshare Team has been formed

3. Finding a Liftshare Teammate:

To find someone to Liftshare with, you must have a journey available to share.

When you have a journey available to share, you will be able to view other member journeys and they will be able to see yours. It is at this point where messages between members seeking more information and, or requests to share can be sent.

Follow these steps to form a Liftshare Team with a fellow Penryn Campus Community member:

1. Add a journey in your account (Driver, passenger, or both if you are flexible to do both)

2. Find a match by searching for nearby journeys

3. You have found a potential match, send a message to seek further information (optional)

4. Send a request to share to form a Liftshare Team

5. The request to share must be accepted by the other member to form a Liftshare Team

4. How and why do I authenticate?

The Mobilityways App is required for each Liftshare member to authenticate to allow the Sustainability Team to monitor Liftshare efficiently in terms of uptake, usage and carbon savings.

How to authenticate:

1. At the point of pick up and before you begin your shared journey.

  • a. Open the Mobilityways App and select ‘Authenticate’
  • b. The driver selects ‘I’m the driver’ and the passenger selects ‘I’m the passenger’
  • c. The passenger scans the drivers QR code showing in the app

2. Success – you’ve authenticated! Put your phones away and Liftshare to campus

Please authenticate your journey! It’s really important to authenticate your journey each time, as this allows the Sustainability Team to see how many people are using the car sharing app and what kind of journeys they are making. This may help inform future functionality and benefits of the scheme.

How safe is car sharing through the Liftshare scheme?

The safety of Car Share Scheme members is a priority, and the website has been made as secure as possible. All member details are stored securely in the database and only members’ travel information can be accessed by other members. Your safety is further increased by sharing with members of the University community through the private group.

When it comes to travelling, every member is responsible for his or her own safety. However, we do recommend that members follow some simple security measures:

  • Avoid exchanging home addresses with your travelling companion before you meet them.
  • Arrange to meet for the first time in a public place.
  • Inform a friend or family member of who you will be travelling with, when and to where.
  • Make sure you see each other’s IDs – passports, student cards or driving licences – so you know you’re travelling with the right person.
  • You are under no obligation to go ahead with any car share arrangement. If you have any doubts about your travelling companion, you should not travel with them.

It is your responsibility to check that the person you are sharing with has all the legal driving documents, such as driving licence, car insurance, MOT and car tax.

What is the suggested contribution?

The app suggests what you might want to give the driver as a contribution to costs. It’s not compulsory and is there as an aid only. You may decide to take it in turns to be the driver and passenger, for example. You can find more information online

What if I’m already registered on Liftshare?

If you are already signed up to Liftshare and belong to another community, sign into your Liftshare account on the Mobilityways app, go to the ‘More’ button and add yourself onto the Penryn Community.

Do I need to lift share for the whole of my journey?

No, you may find that it’s only convenient to Liftshare for part of your journey. Remember to authenticate as soon as the shared part of your journey begins

Does car sharing affect my insurance?

Most UK insurance companies say that car sharing won’t affect the insurance of their members so long as profit isn’t made. If in doubt, check with your insurance company. You can find more information online.
