The Heart Reception at Penryn Campus is now closed for summer and will re-open on Monday 7 September. Any enquiries usually dealt with here can be directed to Glasney Lodge Reception, or by calling them on 013262 53503.

It is necessary to permanently remove five of the bike racks located in the underpass at the Design Centre. These will be cordoned off on Thursday 9 July ahead of their removal on Saturday 11 July. These will be permanently out of use to allow for the installation of a cage for gas cylinders. If you regularly use these facilities, the closest alternative bike storage options include the other side of the underpass, outside the Exchange near the Estates Helpdesk and the new covered bike shelter in Car Park C. Please ensure all bikes are removed by Friday 10 July, as per the local signage. To allow for the works to go ahead on Saturday 11 July, any bikes remaining will be removed and stored by our Safety and Support Team, as per the Abandoned Bikes Removal policy. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Building works to upgrade the ventilation systems in the CSM Clean Lab and adjacent Wet Chemical Lab will take place from 8:00am on Monday 13 July until 4:00pm on Friday 17 July. During this time, the Clean Lab will be out of use and access to the Wet Chemical Lab will be affected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Due to the University of Exeter Graduation Ceremonies taking place, the Sports Centre gym and exercise classes will only be available at the following times:

The summer refurbishment works in Penryn Campus Library are now underway. The Reading Room (Level 2) and Retreat Room are now CLOSED for the duration of the works.

There will also likely be noise disruption throughout the summer in the blue zone of Level 2.

While the Reading Room is closed…

Alternative silent study space will be available on weekdays throughout the summer from the 1st of June:

• Library Group Study Room 5 (all summer)
• until 12th June: DDM Seminar Room E
• from 20th July: Exchange Seminar Red

The print journals have now been moved into storage for the summer, but they are still available upon request. Please ask a member of staff for help.

What to expect in September…

The Reading Room will be converted into a multi-purpose study space, with a variety of seating types to suit your needs.

There will be spaces for 1:1 appointments with Academic Skills Advisors, English Language Tutors, and your Subject Librarians.

There will also be a new entrance from the Exchange Courtyard for ease of access.

The Reading Room is also being renamed to “The Study.”

The current Audio-Visual area will be repurposed into a focused study area, with a variety of solo booths for comfortable, low-distraction study.

We’ll also be reconfiguring the shelving in this area to house our print journals collection, for ease of access and browsability.

The AV materials previously in this area have been moved to the Yellow Zone on Level 2 of the library.

Our collections have also been reconfigures, so some things may not be where you are used to.
Please ask a member of staff if you need help with anything, and thank you for your patience while we get our signage updated.

Books: All of our books have moved to the main shelves in the Blue Zone.

Journals: Have moved to temporary storage, but still available upon request.

VHS tapes: Have moved to storage, but still available upon request.

DVDS, CDs & Vinyl: Have moved onto shelving in the Yellow Zone.

To enable the Penryn 2.0 project works, a small section of Car Park E will be cordoned off and used as a site compound from 13 April through to 30 September. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact the Estates Helpdesk on 01326 255686 or EstatesHelpdesk@fxplus.ac.uk.  

Construction works to create a new freezer archive on the site of the existing beetle sheds, opposite the rear entrance to CSM, will begin on Monday 20 April. The work is estimated to complete by Tuesday 25 August. Due to the nature of the works, noise is expected during the construction period. Please also take extra care when using the access road to the rear of DDM. The maintenance work being undertaken on the roof of the ESI External Plantroom is nearing completion. This means that the scaffolding will be removed the week commencing Monday 27 July. This will take just one day but will involve a scissor lift to remove scaffolding from the side of the ESI building.  

While the works are underway, please can all campus users ensure that they remain outside the barriered areas. Please note that there may be some minor disruption to traffic whilst the scissor lift is installed outside the building. Minimal noise disruption consistent with the use of machinery and scaffolding is also to be expected. The exact date the scissor lift will be delivered is yet to be confirmed.  

Please be aware that the positioning of this work (marked green or red in the image below) is weather dependant, and may be subject to change, due to unforeseen complications, and working with external contractors. Visit the FX Plus website for the latest updates.

Due to the University of Exeter’s Penryn 2.0 project, the Peter Lanyon ground floor kitchen will be temporarily closed and out of action. Once the work is complete, the fully refurbished kitchen and breakout space will be accessible for all. We kindly ask that all personal items are removed from the kitchen area by Friday 8 May, as after this date there will be no access to the kitchen and all remaining items will be discarded.

Due to the installation of a new ventilation and monitoring system, there will be no access to the Archives & Special Collections from 11 May until early September.
•    The Archives and Special Collections will not be available to access during this period.
•    There will be no reading room appointments, however the Archives team will continue to support enquiries remotely – please email archives@fxplus.ac.uk. 

Due to the University of Exeter’s Penryn 2.0 project construction works, from Monday 11 May, through to Thursday 27 August, Peter Lanyon East will be closed, including the Learning Lounge and seminar rooms upstairs, Lecture Theatres 1-5 and the Ground Floor Kitchen, plus the female and accessible toilets opposite the Institute of Photography entrance. The central staircase within the building is also out of bounds.

Peter Lanyon West remains open, however disabled access to this area is via Peter Lanyon East. Disabled access to the first floor via the lift can be maintained and will be managed by the contractor. Service users requiring to use the lift will be escorted by the contractor through the controlled area. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact the Estates Helpdesk on 01326 255686 or EstatesHelpdesk@fxplus.ac.uk. 

From Monday 1 June to Friday 17 July, the Sustainability Café and several nearby facilities will be closed while refurbishment and essential maintenance works take place. 

Areas affected 

The following spaces will be unavailable during this period: 

• The Sustainability Café 
• Breakout area in front of the café (including microwave facilities) up to the Library entrance 
• Upper Stannary male toilets 
• Ladies’ toilets near the lift at the rear of the café 
• The lift, stair core and lobby (ground to first floor) 

Noise disruption expected 

• From 8–11 June, there will be unavoidable noise disruption due to subfloor grinding works. This may affect surrounding areas in the Library, the Stannary and Stannary Bar. 

Additional information 

• Microwave facilities in the breakout area will not be available for the duration of the works. 
• The entrance to the Library will not be affected and remains open.
• The accessible toilet on the ground floor will remain open.

The Fox 3 Hub Reconfiguration project, a complete refurbishment of the space, will begin on Monday 8 June through to September 2026. Throughout the duration of the building works, there will no access to the following areas: 

• The Hub, F013-049 

• Hub 1-7  

• Kitchen and store 

• Office, F013-016 

• Accessible W.C, F013-014 

• Meeting Room, F013-021 

• Lower Courtyard, F013-005 

• Corridor, F013-025 

From Saturday 1 August through to September 2026, there will also be no access to the below space in Fox 1, including Studio F011-008, as part of the same project: 

What else do you need to know? 

• Expect noise disruption throughout adjacent spaces 

• There will be power disruptions when the work is underway, however these will be communicated separately ahead of time and identify the affected areas. 

• The internal link between Fox 4 and Fox 3 will be closed from 8 June through to September 2026.  

• Our contractor’s external compound will be located in Fox 4 car park, and the entire carpark will be reserved for contractor parking only.  

• Contractors will be entering the building to access the building site in Fox 3 from Fox 4 main entrance.

Due to a significant programme of summer works across the Falmouth campus, Fox 4 Car Park will be reserved for contractor use only from 9 June until the end of July.

During this period, please use Lamorva Car Park or the smaller car parks along the Rosehill main drive as alternatives.

We will be upgrading the Exchange Pods, Reading Room and Knowledge Vault starting in mid-June (estimated), as part of the programme of works taking place over the summer. During this time there will be no access to the spaces and the corridor to the Knowledge Vault will also be closed. What you need to know  

• APs will be replaced one at a time to ensure minimal impact on wireless connectivity, but some disruption may be experienced. 

• If you require uninterrupted wireless access during planned maintenance windows, you may wish to use an alternative space on campus. 

• There may be some intermittent drilling to remove/replace APs. 

• Contractors can complete this work in and around staff/students located in buildings and will monitor the timetable to ensure they do not access spaces when teaching/meetings are scheduled. 

• Upon completion, your devices will automatically reconnect to the network.

Essential maintenance is required to replace the hardware which supports the wired and wireless network equipment across Falmouth Campus this summer.

What you need to know

• Engineers will be replacing hardware in the comms cabinet.

• Network coverage (wired, wireless, phones, printing) will be unavailable when this work is scheduled.

• The Café in Fox 3 will remain open and operational whilst the network maintenance in the surrounding area is carried out.

• If you require internet access during the planned maintenance window, please use an alternative space on campus.
